My friend Olivia played at a small, dark bar & grill in town this week, so I dropped by to take a few photos. One of her youngest fans was even in attendance!

My friend Maddie needed some quick headshots for one of her classes, appropriate to the field she wants to go into. Well, she wants to work in Student Affairs, so we spent a few minutes early this morning on campus at Murray State in front of the very collegiate-looking science complex. I think for a quick session they turned out well! Alright Universities, start assembling your offers!
Football is back!! A few images from Murray State’s home opener against Union College and second game at University of Louisville.
Thistle Thursday, Aug. 14 2014- Mike Hicks & Friends. What a great time at Thistle Stop Cafe! Mike Hicks brought some serious energy to the cafe, and a bunch of string instruments too! He sang, told stories and even hopped out into the crowd to dance a bit.
The highlight of the night, at least for me, was at the end when he invited a group of ladies up with him to sing “It is well with my soul” and they belted out an amazingly powerful rendition of the hymn.
These photos were shot for Thistle Stop Cafe, and the full photo set can be found HERE on their Facebook page.
A Survivor’s Tale
Over the summer, my friend Lexy interned at the Lexington Herald-Leader and wrote a powerful story (and column) about Missy Jenkins Smith and her rehabilitation from the 1997 shooting at Heath High School that left her paralyzed from the chest down. I was hired as freelance photog to visit Missy during a physical therapy session. I’ve included a few images below, and there’s also a gallery on the Herald-Leader site here. The story ran on the front page of the Sunday edition, and jumped to fill the entire second page.
The Henningsens and Friends play at Thistle Stop Cafe on Thursday, July 24, 2014 as part of the Thistle Thursdays series.
Clara, Brian and Aaron Henningsen brought along Jimmy Yeary and Sonya Isaacs and together they played some great tunes.
This was my first event as the volunteer photographer for the series- A chance encounter in June set up an irresistible opportunity to work with some incredible people doing incredible things for women who have escaped prostitution, human trafficking, drug use, etc. The full photo set can be seen here.
The Devious Angels perform at Soulshine Pizza in Nashville on Thursday, August 17, 2014.
I first met these guys in 2012 (check it out here!) when they came to Murray and have stayed in touch ever since. A few weeks ago I decided to run down to Nashville for the night and shoot their show at a neat second-floor porch venue in Midtown. Despite a heavy rain that forced the staff to pull out some light-stealing plastic curtains, it was still a fun show with some nice images (despite having to crank the ISO). Steevie was fighting a sore throat but you couldn’t much tell once she got going! Always a good time with DVS.
Thistle Stop Cafe- June 19, 2014.
My friend Jordan was playing at the Thistle Stop Cafe in Nashville last month, so we worked it out where i could come shoot as Sandra McCracken brought a few friends (including Susan Enan whose track “Bird" is one of my favs from a few years ago!) and played some music.
It’s an awesome venue supporting an awesome cause (read more here) and in a rather serendipitous moment, i found myself being able to come back and be a regular volunteer at their Thistle Thursday events! It’s nice to be a part of something that is doing so much good. Future events are posted here, maybe I’ll see you there!
(More photos from the event are here, from both myself and another photog)
